Martha Stewart’s Puppy Perishes in Propane Blast

March 11, 2009 – 3:04 am by R. Gilbert

A propane explosion on March 7, 2009, at a Pennsylvania kennel killed 17 dogs, including Martha Stewart’s five-month old puppy Ghengis Khan. The propane truck driver, Timothy Kleinhagen, was critically injured. Despite the explosion, the blaze, and his severe injuries, Mr. Kleinhagen was able to toss a cairn terrier to safety. The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined.

The owner of the Pazzazz Chows kennel, Karen Tracy, breeds champion dogs. Ghengin Khan was the grandson of Martha Stewarts Chow Chow Paw Paw. He passed away last April at age 13. (See Bye Bye Paw Paw; Critterblog, April 17, 2008.)

Ms. Stewart wrote about the tragedy in her blog, and posted a photographic tribute to her little champion.
