Why Rescue?
March 1, 2009 – 5:19 pm by R. GilbertThe more I think about Barack Obama’s expressed desire to rescue a Portuguese Water Dog, the ridiculousness of this situation becomes more apparent. It is one more example of kowtowing to the “feel good” liberals and Political Correctness run amok. Today there are over 4,604 black Labrador Retrievers available for adoption on Petfinder.com. There are 7,249 Beagles, 4,629 Border Collies and 6,167 Boxers. That’s 22,649 homeless dogs just in four breeds starting with the letter “B.”
There are three Portuguese Water Dogs on the adoption list, and it’s a good bet that not one of them is a purebred that would meet the Obamas’ need for a dog acceptable to a child with allergies. It’s also a good bet that if and when a purebred Portuguese Water Dog becomes available for “adoption,” there is already a waiting list of people experienced with the breed.
Why rescue something that does not need to be rescued? You are only causing deprivation for someone else.
Here’s an idea for the Obamas: BUY a pedigreed Portuguese Water Dog. Spend a couple of thousand dollars and stimulate the economy….
